Languages
English with full voice acting, plus Simplified Chinese for interface and subtitles. Those are the only two languages, and the Chinese localization has had two dedicated fix passes.

Two languages: English and Simplified Chinese. The store's language table marks full audio support with an asterisk, and that asterisk sits on English only.
What the store says
| Language | Interface | Full audio | Subtitles |
|---|---|---|---|
| English | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Simplified Chinese | Yes | No | Yes |
That is the whole table. There is no French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian or Polish localization, and no partial community translation has been announced.
How Chinese support arrived
Simplified Chinese was added to the demo on 25 July 2025, before the game left Early Access, with a Chinese-language announcement on the store news feed. The message was short and aimed at the demo: the playtest build now supported Chinese, and wishlisting was encouraged.
The main game shipped with Chinese at Early Access launch in August 2025, and the localization has been maintained since. Two patches in the record are specifically localization fixes: 0.10.10 and 0.11.18 both list "Localisation fixes (Simplified Chinese)" as a line item.
That matters more than it sounds. A localization that ships and is never patched accumulates text overflow, mismatched terminology and untranslated strings added by later updates. Two dedicated fix passes across eight months is a reasonable maintenance rate for a solo-developed game.
What full audio means in practice
English has voice acting for the broadcast system, the AI, and the story beats. Chinese players get those lines in English with Chinese subtitles.
For a game where the antagonist is a voice in your ear, that is a real difference in experience rather than a checkbox. IDRIS talks constantly; the broadcast system comments on acts, bosses and events, and ASCENSION added new broadcast lines for act two.
Text density, and why it matters here
This is a menu-heavy game. The modification screen alone has seven stat lines, a module list with rarity labels, and descriptions for each effect. A run involves reading module text constantly, mid-fight, under pressure.
If you are playing in Chinese, the terminology to learn is consistent across the interface: modules, chassis, hacks, decryptors and Voidium all have fixed translations, and the game added a glossary page to the inventory in the Chaos Terminal update specifically to keep those terms findable.
What is not translated
Steam store pages, patch notes and announcements are published in English, with the occasional Chinese post for milestones — the July 2025 demo localization announcement being the main example. The community Discord is English-first.
That is the practical gap for a Chinese-speaking player: the game is playable in Chinese, but the patch notes you need to understand balance changes are not.
If you are choosing a language
Play in the language you read fastest during combat, not the one you prefer for story. The module descriptions are the text you read under time pressure, and a misread effect costs a run.
How to change the language
The game follows the Steam client language by default, and the language can be changed in the game's own settings if the client is set to something else. Restart Steam after changing the client language if the game does not pick it up on the next launch — the store's language setting is read at startup.
For the demo, the same rule applies. The demo received Simplified Chinese on 25 July 2025, so a current install supports both languages.
Terminology, and why it matters
This game has an unusually dense vocabulary, and the Chinese localization had to make decisions about all of it. Five terms carry most of the meaning:
| Term | What it refers to |
|---|---|
| Module | The equippable effects that go into weapon slots |
| Chassis | A weapon variant with its own visuals and handling |
| Hack | A permanent upgrade bought in the hub |
| Decryptor | A currency used for hacks and chests |
| Voidium | The run currency used for shops, rerolls and weapons |
The inventory glossary was added in the Chaos Terminal update specifically to keep these terms findable mid-run. If a translated term does not match a guide you are reading, the glossary is the authority.
What the localization fixes actually fixed
Two patches list Simplified Chinese localization fixes: 0.10.10 in December 2025 and 0.11.18 in February 2026. Neither enumerates the strings.
What can be inferred from the timing is that both followed content updates — 0.10.10 came a month after the Chaos Terminal update added a glossary and four modules, and 0.11.18 came days after HARD RESET added six modules and five enemies. New systems mean new strings, and new strings mean overflow and inconsistency.
The practical advice
If you read Chinese faster than English, play in Chinese and use this site for patch notes, which are English-only. If you read both comfortably, play in English for the voice acting and switch to Chinese for the modification screen when a module description is ambiguous.
That is not a joke: the module text is the only place where a mistranslation costs you a run.
One more thing about text size
The interface does not scale independently of the game, and the modification screen packs seven stat labels, a module list and a description panel into one screen. On a 1440p display that reads comfortably; on a 1080p laptop it is dense.
Chinese text has an advantage here — the same sentence takes less horizontal space than its English equivalent, which means fewer wrapped lines in the description panel. That is a small quality-of-life difference in favour of playing in Chinese if you read both.
